Lawrence/Atreides: The Roots of Dune. A chapbook and prints set, limited to 250 copies.

 LAWRENCE/ATREIDES
THE ROOTS
OF
DUNE

A CHAPBOOK AND PRINTS SET
LIMITED TO 250 COPIES

This chapbook presents Kara Kennedy's essay on the similarities between the real-life World War One officer T.E. Lawrence and the hero of Dune Paul Atreides, and how the legend of 'Lawrence of Arabia' inspired Frank Herbert as he developed his story of a foreign figure who immerses himself in a desert culture and helps lead the locals to overthrow their oppressors.

Accompanying the text is a selection of rarely, if ever, reprinted illustrations, in black and white and full colour, from the original 1926 Subscribers' Edition of Lawrence's account of the desert campaign, Seven Pillars of Wisdom — some of which you'd be forgiven for thinking, from a sideways glance at least, were created for an edition of Dune...

A 56pp chapbook, A5 format, printed on silk paper, with a cover on heavyweight uncoated stock.

Over 10,000 words total, presenting a previously unpublished extended version of the essay by Kara Kennedy PhD, writer, researcher and curator of DuneScholar.com

Presented with two A5 prints on heavy laid paper: a version of the chapbook's newly created Frontispiece, hand-signed by the artist Sharon Gosling, and a reproduction of one of the especially Dune-like illustrations originally produced for the 1926 edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom.

Set in Lawrence's preferred font, Caslon, and featuring the 'bloomers' (decorated capital letters) designed especially for Seven Pillars.

Strictly limited to 250 numbered copies, this edition will not be reprinted.

KEEP SCROLLING!

Our previous limited editions have nearly all sold out, so don't miss out on this one...

The Slave Race, featuring Philip K. Dick's first SF tale (not in his Collected Stories), sold out in a matter of days (details here).
Our two Lawrence of Arabia titles (see details here and here), were described by the T. E. Lawrence Society as "a very beautiful publication" and "a valuable piece of ephemera for your collection".
Gods of Darkness, F. Scott Fitzgerald's never-previously-reprinted tale of a Lovecraftian witch cult (yes, you read that right) was an instant sell-out (see here).
The 50th anniversary souvenir An Appointment with The Wicker Man (see here) sold out quickly, as did the limited edition of a horror story by Sharon Gosling, Slow Progress (see here).

No copies remain of At the Door of Darkness, a forgotten episode from Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, deleted from the published version, and reconstructed from the original manuscript. Details here.
250 numbered copies of Dracula's Forgotten Brides, a heavily illustrated monograph about Dorothy Tree, Geraldine Dvorak and Cornelia Thaw, the actresses who played opposite Bela Lugosi in Dracula (1931), quickly found new homes around the world. Details here.
A monograph on The Croglin Vampire, perhaps the earliest of England's vampire legends, similarly was rapidly dispatched to various continents. Details here.
A brace of rediscovered tales by Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley faded into the mists of time once more... Details here
Sales have been brisk, but copies are currently still available of a forgotten publication by Jane Austen and her family, now revived as a facsimile edition. Details here.
You may be able to find copies of some of the above on the secondary market, where they tend to attract prices markedly higher than the original rrp...
